FAQ
Please find below some of the most common questions people ask me. If you can't find your answer here please feel free to Contact me from my Contact Christine Page
1. Why do I need advice about buying a wheelchair. Can't I choose on my own?
Of course anyone has the access to products and can select for themselves what they like about their wheelchair. However they can be expensive products and an inappropriate selection can be a costly mistake. When selecting the most appropriate piece of equpement it is important to consider a far reaching range of areas including someones medical condition, functional ability and postural presentation. This can influence the ease of use for both the wheelchair user and their care giver and make the difference between being independent in the wheelchair and not.
2. Why would yoga help me in the work place?
Working life is ever increasingly stressful with many demands made on us in terms of productivity and here in the UK we work the longest hours of any of our neighbours in Europe. Yoga helps both physical and mentally in that it teaches us how to use out bodies well and more effectively to prevent injuries or even to reduce pain experienced as a consequence of static sitting for protracted periods of time. The human body is designed to be dynamic not static and yet we all spend increasing amounts of time working statically at work stations. Yoga can also help us to manage anxieties and other stresses by the use of breathing practices and relaxation.
3. Why do I need to have my work station assessed?
If you conside the answer to No.2 above you will already see that it is inadvisable to work in a posturally poor working environment. It causes fatigue at one end of the scale and pain and even an inability to carry on working at the other end of the scale. An effective work station assessment looks at how you work, in what environment and what equipment you have around and how you relate to it. You will then be advised as to how you can improve on that situation with the addition of alternative equipment and changing of working practices.
4. Will yoga cure my low back pain?
Often low back pain is the result of poor posture and poor living pratices such as sitting in a poor position in your car or carrying your child in a certain way. So whilst yoga cannot necessarily be seen as a 'cure-all' it can assist the cause of the pain e.g posture and also help to manage the consequence of that. Yoga is a life skills management tool that can help you to live a more qualitative and enriched life.
